Governor Walker’s Proposed State Budget to be Discussed on The West Side

The West Side will host the first of a three-week series of programs discussing Governor Scott Walker’s 2013-15 proposed state budget on Thursday, March 28 at 5 p.m. on 88.3 WHWC/ Menomonie-Eau Claire. Host Rich Kremer and guests will discuss the governor’s proposed budget and its effects on higher education, K-12 education and local governance on March 28, April 4 and 11, respectively.

On March 28, Kremer will welcome University of Wisconsin-Stout Chancellor Chuck Sorensen and Bruce Barker, President of the Chippewa Valley Technical College. Guests will discuss the potential effects of the governor’s budget on higher education. The proposal includes an increase in higher education funding, though guests will talk about the challenges still faced by these institutions.

Highlights of the two-year $68 billion budget include income tax cuts, expansion of Wisconsin’s private school voucher program, freezing local aid, more money for job training and selling some state properties to pay for road, highway and bridge projects.

The West Side is a call-in program focused on issues specific to western Wisconsin.  The show airs on Thursdays at 5 p.m. on 88.3 WHWC/ Menomonie-Eau Claire. Listeners may call in with questions and comments during the program at 1-800-228-5615.
