Investments in Western Wisconsin’s Railroads to be Discussed on The West Side

Recent investments in western Wisconsin’s railroads, such as the Barron to Ladysmith line, will be discussed on The West Side this Thursday, December 13 at 5 p.m. on 88.3 WHWC/Menomonie-Eau Claire and 88.7 WRFW/River Falls.

Host Rich Kremer will be joined by Jeff Plale, Wisconsin Commissioner of Railroads and Jeff French, Barron County Administrator and former President of the Wisconsin West Rail Transit Authority.

This past spring, Canadian National invested $35 million into the abandoned 40 mile track between Barron and Ladysmith. Canadian National’s frac sand market has greatly increased, reaching $100 million in revenue in 2011. Kremer and guests will discuss how the frac sand mining boom and need for efficient transportation of the sand is leading to massive investments in western Wisconsin’s railroads.
